Wedding Dreams Bridal Show Jan, 2012

On January 14th and 15th we had the privilege of attending and being a major part of the Wedding Dreams Bridal Show at Bingeman's. This year the show turned 25! It's hard to believe we've been involved with this awesome event for all that time.

For the show our work was everywhere! Not only did we decorate our own booth, we also had the honour of decorating one of the fashion shows as well providing flowers for the models! We also decorated a bunch of our friends booths! It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun to be able to showcase several different looks throughout the show.

Here is what created for our booth! Our inspiration came from one of my favourite movies ever, Disney's Sleeping Beauty! In my opinion there has never been a more beautiful princess. She is so on trend today to! She was raised in the woods but still maintains her glamour! She has that sort of organic beauty about her. A lot of girls loved our booth and we hope you do to!

The fashion show! Isn't it interesting the way things come back around! This bride is carrying a cascade bouquet with lots of pearls, and touches of lace. Totally 80's but so appropriate today.

For the Wedding Dreams Magazine booth and the lunch area at the show there were lots of crystals! Both looks are very different, but both beautiful.

Evolutions Concept Hair and Spa - This time we went a totally different direction and it turned out beautifully.

Now for something for the guys! We did some decor for The Gun Centre in Kitchener. They were there promoting bachelor (or bachelorette parties) out on the shooting range. What an awesome idea!

Last but definitely not least is Shangri-La Hair Studio and Spa. They also went in a different direction this time from the last. This time was fun and funky in lime and black!

A Family Affair

We would like to apologize for being so far behind on blog up dates. This season has absolutely been amazing! We have had to hire on more full time staff to keep up with all the demands for Special Events. We have loved the individuality of each client. Each wedding has been so unique and personalized, this has allowed us to be so much more creative. We look forward to the 2012 wedding season and being apart of so many people's cherished memories.

This year also found us with the first member of our family to get married. Our son Benjamin married Elisha K. ( our on staff photographer ) on Oct. 1, 2011. Their wedding ceremony was held at Trillium United Church and their reception at the historic Galt Country Club.

I personally have a new respect and understanding for weddings like never before. I am dedicating this post to our talented family and all our dear friends in this industry that truly made this day magical for all of us. I always find that summer just flies by because what we do takes up so much of our time. Come Thursday we are in full gear running our tails off. It truly takes a crew of very talented individuals to pull of an amazing wedding.

I often stand back and watch the couples as they see each other for the first time on their wedding day. I always cry because I just find that there is something so magical about that moment. My advice on your wedding day is to cherish each moment. If things go wrong, it's better to just let it go. It is your ONLY wedding day. Laugh, dance, have an amazing honeymoon and worry about the rest when you get back. Do not spoil this amazing moment in your life. Enjoy, Lynne.

Jessica and Chris, May 7th 2011 at the Portuguese Club of Cambridge

Jessica and Chris have been planning with our team for over a year. We had met Chris many times over the years at events held at The Portuguese Club. When it came time for his own wedding, he knew exactly who he wanted to have do his wedding decor. Their wedding was all red and white with hints of black and silver. We completed their wedding with beautiful florals done here at our showroom.

Tania and Andrew, May 14th 2011 at The Oriental Sports Club

We first met with Tania and Andrew 9 months previous to their wedding. Tania new exactly what she wanted from day one. Her ideas were very earthy inspired, with browns and greens, as well as touches of moss and twig. We added a little bling for fun. The evening was complete with a vintage candy bar styled by our team here at Special Events.

Maria and Eddie, May 14th 2011 at The Portuguese Club of Cambridge

Maria and Eddie had started to plan their wedding a year and a half ago but had to postpone their plans. They re-booked for May 14th. Their pewter and silver decor was stunning and the flowers were all in shades of purple , which finished off the reception hall perfectly.

Brian and Jess were such a cute young couple that started working with us about 10 months ago. Both of them had a specific vision of the decor they wanted for their day. The colours they chose were black and white, with hints of teal and lime. Some older pieces we're re-vamped and brought up to date to add to this very stylish and modern decor.

We wish all our couples much love, joy and happiness.

Nick and Roxi.

We met Roxi through her sister Anda. We had the privilege of decorating for Anda in October 2010. Roxi loved our style and hired us for her wedding. We did not meet with Nick until closer to the wedding. They are such a cute couple, and so in love.

Roxi's style was very minimal but beautiful. She had a real flare for colour and a vintage taste. She hand-picked all her vases and had us design the groupings of tulips, commercial mums and pussy willows. The colours she chose for the day we're ivory, pearl silver and pewter with tulips in coral for a punch of colour.

The Ceremony was held at Philadelphia church in Preston, followed by the reception at the beautiful Victoria Park Pavilion.

Alan and Onui

Onui and Alan designed a spring palette of silver, purple and mauve. There reception was held at Delta Guelph. The tables we're completely draped in purple Pintuck tablecloths and the chairs covered in majestic silver chair wraps. The centrepieces we're very simple but classy. Different height variations in glass vases, floating candles, petals and crystals. The head table was draped in silver Pintuck and egg plant satin fabric, accented with our rhinestone buckles. Candles and petals finished the look of the head table. To commemorate the royal wedding, they chose our new royal wedding money box.

Such a sweet couple, and we wish them much happiness.

Successful Fundrasing Events

More charitable foundations are hiring professional decorators to create themed events for fund raising galas. The draw to events like these are the extras that organizations put in. If the event has a great evening of entertainment, food, decor and quality auction items, great funds are raised. Once word gets around about the fun in attending an event such as these, attendance explodes and the event sells out every year.

The Chef's Gourmet Dinner is hosted by Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Waterloo Region. This fund raising event takes place each year at Bingemans. The theme this year was 1930's (flapper) dinner club. Very dramatic black , white and damask fabrics and added chandeliers, crystals and red up lighting all added that extra wow to this event. Floor length black pin tuck linen, topped with a damask runner along with a tall centrepiece of black and white Malibu feathers were the finishing touches. Volunteers dressed in flapper costumes and guests were greeted by Al Cappon. The evening was a huge success with many rave reviews.

The Glass Slipper Affair is hosted by Family and Children Services of Waterloo Region. The location this year was the beautiful Victoria Park Pavilion. Springtime in Paris was their theme, with Tiffany Blue and Black as the colours. Gobo lights throwing images of the Eiffel Tower, The Louvre with Tiffany blue carpet and hung pictures of Sponsor recognitions, draped ceiling with pin fairy lights, glass shoes with fresh florals and so many more Eiffel themed additions helped to make this event truly memorable. The talk of the evening was a seven foot balloon sculpture created by our own Tim Krete. Both events were extremely successful raising over $25,000 each. One thing we have to remember is organizations such as these would not be successful without the many wonderful volunteers that donate their time and abilities to make these galas happen. If you get the opportunity to volunteer you will not regret it. Enjoy. -Lynne

Disney's Wedding Pavillion

We recently went on vacation to sunny Orlando Florida. We had the privilege of viewing Disney's Wedding Pavilion at The Walt Disney World Resort. We took pictures in their private studio where they do all their booking, and then we toured the ceremony venue and Bridal Suite. It was a dream come true, and we were truly inspired.

Disney hired David Tutera, wedding planner and designer to the stars to create Disney's Couture Wedding Collection. This includes a celebrity style wedding, personal sessions with your wedding planner, top Walt Disney World Chefs, decor designers, photography and videography teams and more. You'll also get to send out designer invitations, save the dates and get the VIP treatment with a personal tour guide.

David created four looks which are customizable for Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings. They really resemble something from a dream. Disney's Fairytale Wedding's also include a designer gown collection by Alfred Angelo and a collection of amazing honeymoon packages.

Something of this magnitude and price may not be for everyone,which is why we look to this amazing collection for inspiration in our own weddings. It is always great to do research on what is out there, so when you come in to the store we can create that fairytale wedding you've always wanted.

Fall Weddings

Beautiful fall, time when all the leaves change, there is a coolness in the air and nights become longer. The fall has become more popular for weddings than the summer! We at Special Events can hardly keep up. What makes this fall so special for us is that one of our children is getting married.

Our son Ben is getting married to Ellie on October the first. They have been dating since they were 14. It is so cute to have seen them grow into a fine young couple. I will keep you posted on all their plans and big day details.

Colours in the fall are very warm they reflect the colours of the season, the changing of leaves, plants and grasses. Crimson, copper, rust, burnt orange and golden yellows just to name a few. Fall weddings generally choose colours to reflect the season. It is very rare to see someone use a pink or mauve at this time of year unless they are adding it amongst brighter fall colours. Try changing things up a little. Instead of using standard whites or ivory's for linen, try using dark chocolate, mocha or golds. Changing tablecloths, napkins and chair covers from standard colours will add some drama to your wedding reception decor.

Flower choices are abundant in the fall. Gerberas, roses, orchids, mums, sunflowers,pin cushions, gladiolas, lilies are just a few and yes they all are available in beautiful fall shades.

Pumpkins and gourds, hay, fall leaves are all inexpensive touches that can be added to bring the feeling of fall to your decor. Carved pumpkins, lit, and filled with fresh flowers for centerpieces is an adorable look. Small gourds or mini pumpkins make great place card holders. Fall leaves (if real) should be waxed so they do not crumble, or substituting with artificial leaves would work as well. They are great for scattering around centerpieces, lining church isles and even being used as a name card at a place setting. Some other fun little fall pieces are acorns and berries. They can add that extra fall touch to centerpieces, bouquets, and even as decorations on the cake. Branches covered in fall leaves are also a fun fall accessory. They can be put in jars or glass vases for church decor. Finish everything off with candles, to give that warm glow to your fall wedding.

The little touches go as far as your imagination. Whatever season you decide to go with for your wedding, we at Special Events wish you all the best!

Summer Weddings Part two

Continuing on with Summer weddings. This week I wanted to talk about church ceremonies and banquet hall receptions.

A very popular look this year for church ceremonies has been the historic vintage church. They are so beautiful and have a romantic feel about them. Here in Cambridge we are blessed with quite a few. Ellis Chapel, Central Presbyterian, St. Clements Roman Catholic are just a few choices here in town. When you choose a vintage church you have to be careful in choosing your decor. You do not want to hide or take away from the charm of it, but accent it. Beautiful pews, isles, choir lofts, bell towers and organs are all features that make it worth having your ceremony in one of these vintage churches. Most churches need something on the pews. There is a huge selection of things you can do. Bows, rose balls, flower cones, small flower clusters, and candle stands.
I also think it is beautiful to have a carpet runner with petals matching your wedding colours. To finish things off I would suggest two large floral pieces or candle stands at the front of the church. Once the wedding party is standing there, everything looks picture perfect.

A helpful hint. Most florists will deliver and set up the the church. Only some will dismantle the church and move these pieces to your reception site. So make sure you have someone designated to move these items for you if needed.

This year, a popular look is the more blank slate venue for receptions. Couples are getting away from the typical banquet hall and going for a more cold, blank and modern space. Examples of this are The Tannery, The Art Gallery of Hamilton, Seagram's museum, The Canadian Clay and Art Glass Museum and so many more. Weddings have a more calm and relaxed feel. When you book a location that is simple in design, you do not have to worry about architectural flaws. This way your decor stands out and your location meshes well with the ambiance and feel you are trying to achieve for your wedding. Receptions are becoming more lounge like. Little areas are created for that cozy relaxed feel. Grouped settings of couches, loungers, chairs and tables where your guests can socialize with each other. Another trend that has been booming lately are Hor' deurves tables, food stations and candy bars in receptions. Again this creates a cozy atmosphere causing guests to mingle with one another. There is no end to what you can do with your wedding. Making your wedding a reflection of your style and personality always adds fun and memories to your special day. Until next week, enjoy.

Summer Weddings

We have all been in a deep freeze here in Canada for a number of weeks! The thought of summer soon approaching helps us to get through this cold winter.
Let's close our eyes and think of a hot summer day. Shoes off, bare foot walking in the park, running through a sprinkler and having a picnic. Aah. This thought gets me excited! I love summer!

This is truly the busiest time of year for weddings. Glorious sunny days for outside ceremonies, photos and receptions. Lush full colourful gardens, so many choices.

Choosing colours in the summer should bring the feeling of vibrant warmth and fun to your decor and flower selections. You have so many fun colours to choose from; orange, hot pink, lime green, metallic purples, Caribbean blues, teals and bright yellows just to name a few.

Many couples choose to have at home tent receptions. 95 percent of tent weddings are held at home. Tent receptions are a lot more work then renting a banquet hall. Many items need to rented such as chairs, tables, bars, portable washrooms, generators, lighting, heaters and the caterer. Try to hire a caterer that will bring in dishes, cutlery, glassware and their own kitchen supplies.

The positive things about tent weddings are the the outdoors and that you will have a blank slate to be as creative as you like. There is nothing prettier that an all white tent on a green lawn. The other positive thing is that you can choose your tables and chairs like Chivari's, white folding and ghost chairs. The same with tables, square, round, rectangular and so much more.

I personally think that if your tables are beautiful your event will be beautiful. Coloured tablecloths, napkins and chair covers (if needed) all add to the pop inside of a white tent.

Tall and multiple bright flower centerpieces help to fill a tent with colour and aroma. Hung fabric, Asian lanterns, chandeliers and flower balls can all add to the atmosphere of your event. Driveways lined with luminaries, bows in trees, decorated mailboxes, gates and front doors, flowers floating in ponds all add to the personal touch of an at home reception.

Weather can sometimes hold people back from having a tent wedding. Don't let this scare you, just make sure you use reputable companies who know what they are doing. Most of all preparation is key to a successful day! Until next week, enjoy. -Lynne

Choosing Colours: Spring

Spring is one of my favourite seasons. When I think spring, I think fresh, everything is new again.

Pastels often scream Spring. Other colours such as yellow, purple, pink and green can also be included with the right combination of pastels.

Many flowers only appear at this time of year. For example: Lily of the Valley ( my all time favourite flower ) lilacs, genista, hyacinth, daffodils, stocks, and so many more.

Choosing Spring flowers reminds me of my childhood. I think of playing in a field of wild flowers, oh so beautiful! Bouquets generally are quite lush and hold a number of different varieties of flowers. Arrangements are more natural rather then formal in appearance.

Themes at this time of year are fun too. You can choose a simple flower like lilacs to run throughout your decor or you can choose a symbol like a butterfly and have it be on your stationary and wedding cake.

Some receptions and ceremonies are inside, some are outside. At this time of year it is probably best indoor here in Canada. The neat thing to do with your decorations is to bring the feeling of Spring indoors. Lush plants and arrangements of fresh flowers in decorative containers, fresh apple blossom branches, fabric napkins and linens in a spring print can all add to enhance your wedding day and set a stage of Spring.

Choosing Colours: Winter Wedding

Over the next few posts, we've decided to continue our education on colour. Today, we will be starting a new series which will be focused on seasonal events, beginning with winter weddings. When it comes to winter, most people think of ice and snow. Colour schemes of blue, silver and white are very common. However, there are other options that also have that wintry feel without going the way of Christmas with green and red.Personally, when I think of winter colours I think of pastel tones. Colours like light pink, mint green, light blue-green, lavender and of course ice blue. There are of course other pastel tones like light orange and light yellow however, these colours evoke spring because of their warm orientations on the colour wheel. Pink is also a warm colour but it is an exception to this rule because it reminds us of the cherry candy canes and peppermints of Christmas time. When you use these colours with white and silver and sometimes pale gold tones they begin to take on a frosted look. Almost as if they were left outside and ice has begun to form on them. This is especially the case when you include glittery accents throughout the event.

Picture a mostly white bouquet, with tiny blossoms in pink and white roses subtly dipped in pale-pink glitter. Pretty right? Perhaps even, a room with soft white and silver draping, throw in a few mint green crystal accents. Wouldn't that be a winter wonderland?

Although I always prefer colour, there is always the option of an all-white winter wedding. This can be equally as beautiful. When choosing an all-white wedding you have to be careful. A completely white event could easily become cold or boring, but the key to avoiding this is by incorporating different textures.

If you imagine for a second an all-white curtain backdrop. If you use the same fabric hung in the same way throughout, it sounds like it could be plain right? Well take that same backdrop, maybe add a section of ruched (gathered) satin in the centre, add some hanging crystal strands, a couple of tiny snowflakes and a couple of fabric swags. Immediately, that plain backdrop has become multi-dimensional and much more interesting. This same formula works for flowers. Rather than have a bouquet of a singular type of flower such as a rose, add hydrangea or calla lilies. Instantly the variety of textures becomes a completely different experience. For those of you who like simple, this might not apply to you. Just remember that things can be simple but not everything should be the same. I know it's cliche but, variety IS the spice of life.

Choosing Colours

You now have your key vendors booked for your wedding, and it is time to think about dresses for you and your bridesmaids. I always think it is best to take just a few people shopping; your mom, maid of honour or just a couple members of the wedding party. It is important that everyone recognizes that this is your special day and its your choice. It is also common for bridal party members to not like what they are asked to wear, but being asked to be in someones wedding is an honour. A friend or relative needs to support the decision of the bride.
Once you have chosen your core colour ask for a swatch of fabric. Usually you will receive a few threads of fabric stapled to a business card. This is impossible to share with all of your vendors, so the solution is to head to your local paint store. Your paint store will have paint chips to match your color that you can take to the vendors who require a sample.
Now let's go back to school and learn about pairing up complimentary colours. You may remember the colour wheel from art class. There is definitely an equation when it comes to putting the right colours together.

Primary colours are red, yellow and blue:

Secondary Colours are purple, green and orange:

Tertiary colours are blue-purple, blue-green, yellow-green, yellow-orange, red-purple, red-orange:

Any of these combinations or shades of these combinations look great.

My favourites are monochromatic. An example of this is taking the colour red and adding black to the red to make it darker, or taking white to the red to make it lighter. You can do this to any colour.

Another colour grouping that works well is analogous. This is colours that run side by side on the colour wheel like; blue, blue-green, green or yellow, yellow-orange, orange.

As long as you think about the compliments of colour you will succeed. A variety of shades adds depth, interest and warmth to your wedding.

I wanted to take a new direction with the blog this year. Of course we will always show pictures of what we have been up to but we wanted to give tips and advice that will help you to plan the perfect event. If you have just been engaged you may have visited the Wedding Dreams Bridal show this last weekend. Before you meltdown and go into overload over all that you must do, I want you to figure out a budget for each item you need and stick to it. Do homework and be reasonable with your expectations. Book your key professionals first; reception venue, ceremony location, photographer, DJ, dress, decorator and florist. Do not worry about every detail, make sure you have those things booked. During the months before the wedding work on the details. Remember to breathe. Enjoy. -Lynne

We had one of our biggest weekends of the season. Tech Noel for Christie Digital. The theme was futuristic night club. Illuminated fabric columns, acrylic bars, lounges and lots of lighting effects. Then, Come Home for Christmas for Unitron which had vintage Sleighs centrepieces, gingerbread houses, candy bars, beautiful silver linen and chair covers. Last of all Hollywood for Desire 2 Learn which featured crystal Chandeliers, Malibu feather centrepieces, red carpet and the Hollywood sign in lights. The weekend was so awesome and so much fun. ~Lynne

We've got so many things on the go at Special Events. Christmas parties and holiday events, weddings, and so much more. Here are pictures of three recent events. Located directly across from our showroom is the Preston Cenotaph, and every year we pay tribute to our serving and fallen soldiers. We decorated our window this year with stories of soldiers from Preston who died in World War 1 and 2. Thank you so much veterans for all you have done and continue to do.

There was a great turn out at this October's Wedding Dreams bridal show. Our booth was decorated in shades of pewter, silver, green, white with accents of crystals. We look forward to meeting with you at our show room to discuss your up and coming weddings. Even with the bridal show going on, we still managed to decorate four other events on the weekend, including a charity event for the Children's Wish Foundation at I.C.C of Guelph, a wedding at The Armenian Center, another wedding at The Knights Of Columbus in Kitchener, and a third wedding at the Concordia Club.

This week I had the privilege of meeting my style icon Kim Kardashian. Kim is famous for so many things. She has a hit reality T.V show with the rest of her family called Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Along with her two sisters, she owns a clothing store called Dash which is currently opening a new store in NYC. She is also the face for so many brands, such as Fusion Beauty, Quick Trim, Perfect Skin and so many more! She has everything from her own perfume, fitness videos and even her own cupcake flavour! She is the ultimate business woman, which made it a dream come true to have a chance to meet and chat with her. She is so sweet, and good to her fans! Happy 30th Birthday Kim Kardashian! This past week, one of our employee's Amy went to Kleinfeld bridal attire store in New York City. It is famous for it's selection in gowns and the hit TLC television show Say Yes To The Dress. She had the chance to meet many people from the show including Randy, and the owner of Kleinfeld, Mara Urshel. Everyone was extremely patient and kind and took the time to talk to everyone. The overall experience was memorable for all the girls and our daughter in law to be said YES to the dress.

This couple really wanted an intimate ceremony within a large banquet hall. This was created by draping off a section of the hall in pink and ivory fabrics. We used crystals and trees with hanging peonies all complimented with up lighting in soft pink.

Pearson Convention Centre.

Fine satin fabrics in shades of Chocolate and Claret, complimented with up lighting. We designed a centerpiece of chocolate letters in C and M, along with chocolate almonds and rose buds in large glass bowls up lighted in red. The look was finished with an all chocolate wedding cake trimmed in chocolate and claret roses. "Kristen & Lane"

Very unique and fun couple. The decor and location had a retro feel. Candles, candles and more candles. An evening dusk ceremony and on site reception all at Ellis Chapel. The candle light added to ambiance of the evening.

New opportunities are on the rise. Here at Special Events we are constantly getting involved in new ventures, bringing in new products and thinking of new ideas to make our business the best it can possibly be for our customers. This past weekend we were asked to decorate a wedding for the upcoming television show Rich Groom, Poor Groom which will air on Slice TV. Christmas is in the air! Here is a list of what we have been up to the last few weeks. We had our first Kurdish wedding at The Polish Club of Cambridge, a wedding at the Rockmosa Club in Rockwood Ontario, an asian style party for Desire 2 Learn, Spaenaur's staff Christmas party and a traditional winter party for the Real Estate Board of Cambridge. Well, it's been a couple of busy weeks here at Special Events and Flowers. We've had four big events, a prom and three weddings. On the 16th we were at the Bellagio in Concord, where the decor was glittery with a blue, sliver and white colour scheme set of with crystal accents. We were also at the Armenian Centre of Cambridge where the decor was cream satin and calla lilies. The following weekend we were at the Italian Canadian Club of Cambridge for a Parisian themed prom. The final event was at Bingemans where we decorated a summer wedding with a winter twist. We used glittered roses, touches of snowflakes, red feathers and silver fabrics. This weekend was yet another busy one. We decorated a prom for St. Benedict's High School at the University of Waterloo's Fed Hall with Hollywood themed Decor. We also decorated a 40th anniversary party for Babcock and Wilcox at Bingeman's. There were also two weddings this weekend; one at Bingeman's and the other Rebel Creek Golf and Country Club. It was another busy week last week. We found ourselves decorating all over Cambridge and Kitchener. Starting on Friday we had the Kiwanis Lobsterfest at the Armenian Centre in Cambridge. The decor featured sand, shells, lobsters and red accents, it was a lot of fun. On Saturday we had a wedding at the Portuguese Club of Cambridge, in beautiful chocolate and cotton candy pink. What a beauty! Also on Saturday and continuing into Sunday we were at the Grand Lifestyle Show at Bingeman's in Kitchener. We set up a booth to promote what we do as well as provided chair covers for the stage areas. We also had the privilage of decorating a Tea hosted by Colin and Justin (HGTV's Home Heist), we also got to create Justin's corsage for the event. What perfect gentlemen they are! This week was a busy one, we had four major events going on! On Wednesday we were at Bingeman's for the International Association of Administrative Professionals Trade Show, where we set up a booth for promotional purposes as well as provided the decor for their luncheon. On Friday night we decorated the Galt Country Club for their annual food and beverage gala with a tropical flair. Finally on Saturday we had two weddings, one at the Portuguese Club of Cambridge and the other at Kitchener's Concordia Club. We were very pleased with the end results of each of these events and so were the clients involved. Enjoy the sampling of images we've provided for your viewing!

This past weekend Andrea and Dean celebrated their destination wedding with a tropical themed wedding reception for friends and family here at the Kitchener Knights of Columbus Hall. This saturday found us at Golf's Steak House in Kitchener decorating the wedding of Paul Murch and Cassie Suddard. What a fun loving couple, this was totally reflected in the style of their decor. Black feathers, silver satin chaircovers, pink rose petals as well white and pink fabric draping created the intimate wedding reception of the couple's dreams. We wish Cassie and Paul the very best of what life has to offer.

On February 21st we got the chance to return to one of the most beautiful and romantic venues in our area, La Hacienda Sarria. Upon entering this place you feel immediately transported to somewhere in Europe, the architecture and attention to detail is awe inspiring. That being said La Hacienda lends itself wonderfully to a romantic event like a wedding. From our first meeting with the Bride (Jenn Mullin), we knew that the event would be spectacular. The centrepieces consisting of deep red roses adorned with crystals, the chair covers in ivory with glittering buckles on a black sash as well as a ceiling decorated with chandeliers and fabric draping all came together to produce a gorgeous setting. We wish Jenn and Greg all the very best.

Weddings for February 14 2009

This past weekend saw two really beautiful weddings. We were given our first opportunity to decorate the Art Gallery of Hamilton, a wonderful venue. We would like to thank Jodie Faulman and the staff of AGH for their service and attention to detail. For this wedding we got a chance to test our new lighting effects and were really excited with the outcome. We will now be able to offer couples lighting that reflects their style. We can now design patterns or text to be projected on any flat surface for any event.

Our second wedding for the weekend took place at the Polish Club of Cambridge. Love was in the air for this traditional valentine wedding. The decor featured Hearts and Roses and a romantic colour scheme of red and black. We would like to thank the catering staff of Joe Leite Catering Co. for their attention to detail in coordinating their settings to match our decor.

We wish all the best to our wonderful couples that were married on February 14th.

New blog, new address, new direction, new beginning.

After 15 years of being in one place you become attached. 626 King Street East has become somewhat of a second home, with that comes many fond memories. We will always cherish the many couples that spent time with us here and put their special day in our hands. Although we will miss 626, we are excited to announce that as of April the 1st 2009 we will be in a new location at 614 King Street East. Our new location is better suited to providing you with the type of experience that we at Special Events like to provide. A few of the excitng things that we will be showcasing in our new showroom are; new lighting effects, new fabrics, new chair covers and many new and original designs created by Special Events. We look forward to the new direction our new home will take us. We have taken a few photos of our current showroom in memory of the past, looking forward to the future.
